This November was shaped by small, brave gestures: hands brushing snow off polar bears’ paths, divers lifting old nets from coral gardens, students discovering the ocean with wide-eyed wonder, and communities stepping up when animals needed them most.
From frozen lakes to tropical reefs, our partners worked with quiet determination not for recognition, but because caring for life on our planet has become a shared instinct.
This November reminded us that protection doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes, it’s patience. Sometimes, teamwork. Sometimes, simply choosing to show up.
Together, these moments form a gentle, powerful wave of people standing with the ocean one act of kindness at a time. 🌍💙🌊
Marine Restoration & Community Engagement
Ocean Gardener x ClubOcean®

This month, Ocean Gardener celebrated an important milestone as their community was honored at the Nusa Penida Festival for their ongoing efforts in environmental preservation. This recognition highlights the strong local engagement and the long-term commitment of the team to protecting marine ecosystems.
In the field, Ocean Gardener continued its restoration work by releasing 150 clams and adding to their impressive reef-building efforts with over 3,000 corals planted this month. The team also trained three local Indonesians in coral reef restoration techniques, contributing to sustainable, community-led conservation practices. 🪸💙

Winter Behaviour & Welfare Update
Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat x ClubOcean®

This month, Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat fully entered winter mode, with nearly 40 cm of snow covering the ground. The colder weather brought a surge of activity from Ganuk and Henry, who have been enjoying the fresh snow in very different ways.
Henry spent time breaking apart the ice in the pool, a behaviour that lets him explore, test the ice, and express natural instincts. Ganuk, who prefers to stay dry, focused on his enrichment items instead especially his favourite pylons. Both bears have been rolling, playing, and making the most of the snowy landscape.
The team also noted an increase in active behaviour typical for this season. With their thick insulation, polar bears risk overheating easily, but colder temperatures allow them to stay active longer without discomfort. They also use clever cooling behaviours like eating snow or flattening themselves against it. Early winter is a calm period for males, with low testosterone levels reducing competition and allowing more time for rest, play, and social interactions. 🐻❄️

Kelan Beach Cleanup Initiative
R.O.L.E Foundation x ClubOcean®

On November 14th, the R.O.L.E. Foundation brought together 70 participants staff members, Bali WISE students, SD 11 Jimbaran schoolchildren, and volunteers for a new cleanup at Kelan Beach.
From 07:00 to 08:30 AM, the group collected 302.75 kg of waste, with residue making up most of the debris (57.8%) and hard plastics such as cups, bottles, cutlery, and styrofoam following at 11.2%. These findings highlight the ongoing impact of single-use items and the importance of continuous awareness efforts.
All waste was carefully sorted by the R.O.L.E. Foundation team: recyclables were sent to local Waste Banks, while residue and ghost nets were transported to the landfill for proper disposal. Through this action, the team once again demonstrated strong commitment to protecting Kelan Beach and engaging the local community. 🌊♻️

Sea Turtle Conservation & Veterinary Care Update
Dekafok x ClubOcean®

This month, Dekafok continued its essential work rescuing and rehabilitating injured sea turtles across the region. Two loggerhead turtles brought in by the team were treated successfully and released back into the sea after veterinary care.
The first turtle had two fishing hooks in its mouth and throat, which were removed through a precise endoscopic intervention. Once its condition was confirmed stable, it was released in an event attended by local law enforcement and school students.
The second turtle had been rescued from fishing nets by diver police officers. After several hooks were removed, it spent ten days under observation before returning safely to the Mediterranean, accompanied by the same officers and students.
Dekafok’s efforts are also gaining international attention. Four teachers from Croatia visited the team this month to learn about their work and discuss future collaboration.💫🐢

Dolphin Monitoring & New Scientific Insights
MORIGNEOS x ClubOcean®

This month, Morigenos continued its dedicated monitoring of bottlenose dolphins in Slovenian waters, combining field research with strong educational outreach. The team spent countless hours at sea documenting dolphin groups, behaviours, and movements, helping deepen our understanding of the Northern Adriatic’s marine life.
A highlight of the month came from the SeaInsights project: by merging photo-identification catalogues with partner organizations, researchers identified 75 dolphins moving across borders, revealing remarkable connectivity within the region. These findings provide the most detailed transboundary picture ever documented for the Northern Adriatic, showing how dynamic, mobile, and interconnected these dolphins truly are. 📚🐬

A Month of Rescue, Care, and Festive Hope
SANCCOB x ClubOcean®

This november was particularly intense for SANCCOB, with 76 seabirds admitted into the ICU, including 72 Critically Endangered African penguins and 56 fragile new chicks at the start of the breeding season. A major chick clearing on 20 October revealed many young birds still strong enough to begin stabilisation immediately, while others arrived severely emaciated or injured, requiring urgent and specialised care. The team and volunteers worked tirelessly to feed, treat, and comfort each bird, giving them the strongest chance of recovery. Alongside this demanding rescue work, SANCCOB launched its festive initiatives, the Secret Santa fish sponsorship and the Christmas Penguin Adoption Campaign, offering supporters a heartfelt way to contribute to food, medical care, and rehabilitation during the holiday season. 🐧💛
