This October, the ocean felt the care, courage, and compassion of so many hearts .
Across shores and seas, our partner organizations were out there rescuing wounded turtles, giving orphaned penguin chicks a second chance, restoring fragile corals, and teaching hundreds of children to love and protect the blue world we all share.
Each action told a story of hope, of healing, of humans standing up for life beneath the waves. From early-morning cleanups to late-night rescues, every gesture mattered. Together, these efforts form something greater: a movement powered by empathy and dedication🌊🌿
Advancing Coral Restoration and Ocean Solutions
Ocean Gardener x ClubOcean®

This month, Ocean Gardener focused on strengthening both marine restoration and education efforts. The team is currently monitoring coral spawning, a crucial step in understanding reef reproduction and supporting large-scale coral restoration initiatives.
In addition, three scholarships were awarded for the upcoming Acropora ID Course in Banda Neira (December 16–27, 2025), providing hands-on learning opportunities for students passionate about coral identification and marine conservation.
Ocean Gardener also announced plans to introduce 150 giant clams into its ongoing reef restoration project, helping to enhance biodiversity and promote healthier reef ecosystems. Finally, the organization unveiled The Reef Saver a modular and scalable solution for sewage treatment in remote locations. This innovation represents a significant step toward reducing coastal pollution and protecting coral reefs from wastewater impacts.

Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat: Celebrating Polar Bear Week in Grand Style
Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat x ClubOcean®

This month, Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat marked Polar Bear Week with creativity, joy, and a true celebration of the Arctic’s most iconic species . Each year, the event coincides with the polar bears’ migration along Hudson Bay as they await the return of sea ice a reminder of the fragile beauty of their natural world.🐻
To honor the occasion, the team organized daily educational sessions and fun activities that brought people closer to these majestic animals. The highlight of the week was a record-breaking treat: Ganuk and Henry enjoyed a 137 lb watermelon and a 1,078 lb pumpkin, both generously donated by Aidie Creek Gardens. The bears spent hours exploring, playing, and feasting with plenty of pumpkin left the next day ! 🎃🍉

Healing the Ocean, One Turtle at a Time
Dekafok x ClubOcean®

This month, DEKAFOK focused on both marine education and sea turtle rehabilitation, with the support of the sea turtle ambulance, which has become a crucial part of our work.
Throughout October, the team treated three injured sea turtles rescued from different parts of the coast, some as far as 250 km away. “İpek,” a young green sea turtle, suffered a severe head injury from a boat propeller and lost her right flipper. Her head wound is healing, and the team is exploring the possibility of designing an artificial flipper for her. “Zühal,” a loggerhead turtle, had two fishing hooks one in her mouth and another deep in her throat. After a careful 30-minute operation using an endoscopy device, both hooks were successfully removed, and she will be released back into the sea on Tuesday. The third green turtle, still unnamed, remains in critical condition after a serious boat strike that damaged her shell and head. Despite her injuries, she continues to fight for survival under close veterinary care.
DEKAFOK also continued its environmental education programs, welcoming 844 students to the center this month. Through interactive lessons, they learned about sea turtles and marine conservation. Alongside schools and local volunteers, the team organized five beach cleanups, collecting over 50 large bags of trash and removing heavy debris with the help of local authorities.🐢💫

Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Global Collaboration for Seabird Conservation
SANCCOB x ClubOcean®

October was a remarkable month for SANCCOB, marked by impactful rescue operations, international collaboration, and successful wildlife rehabilitation.
On October 20th, SANCCOB admitted 32 African Penguin chicks into care after a proactive rescue mission with CapeNature at the Stony Point colony. During moulting season, many adult penguins are forced to abandon their chicks, leaving them vulnerable. All 32 chicks were found emaciated, but thanks to immediate stabilisation and expert rehabilitation, they now have a second chance at survival.
Earlier this month, SANCCOB co-hosted the global Effects of Oil on Wildlife (EOW) Conference) the first ever held in Cape Town, South Africa. The event gathered international experts to share innovations in oiled wildlife response and shone a spotlight on the Critically Endangered African Penguin. During the conference, 11 rehabilitated penguins were released at Seaforth Beach in celebration of African Penguin Awareness Day.
In addition, SANCCOB successfully rehabilitated and released a young Blacksmith Lapwing chick (BSL003) that had been rescued in September. Through attentive care — from specialised feeding to environmental enrichment the chick regained its strength and was released back into the wild on 30 October.🐧🌊
